Ruth Roman, born in Lynn Massachusetts to Lithuanian-Jewish Mary Pauline Gold and Abraham Roman is the third daughter of their family. Ruth was a small toddler when her father who was an carnival barker, died. Her mother had to work in jobs including waitressing and cleaning. Ruth was born in a poor area of Boston Massachusetts where she attended high school. After only two school years she left for an acting career. There were many hurdles to overcome on her path to success. When she was in New York she was hired to take photos for a magazine about crime however, no theatre opportunities were offered. As a hat check girl at a nightclub she quit her job and moved back to Boston. The New England Repertory Company was the first position she held as a steady actor. Earned money doing shifts during the day, as an usherette. She graduated with a degree in drama from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
